Open Pack Volunteer Positions

As Webelos move onto Boy Scouts the parents leave too. Each year we need a new batch of Wolf and Bear parents to step up to the plate to fill our volunteer positions.  Please contact Ellen Caprio if you can help.  Remember if you don't do it and no one else does it, we will simply have less activities for the boys.  So please don't wait for someone else to step up. We need you!

Position / Past Volunteer Description
Currently open positions
Summertime Events Chair * / Dave England Coordinate our summertime pack events: Pool Party and 4th of July Parade.

Resident Camp
Dates: July 9-12, 2008
Location: Mataguay Scout Ranch
Event Leader: Dave England

Has your son always wanted to earn that Archery or BB gun Belt Loop? Resident Camp is the location where these can be earned. Resident Camp is a camp where boys are led by Boy Scout staff in different activities which include: canoeing, swimming, archery, BB-guns, crafts and games.

“Our CAMP ACTIVITIES emphasize the outdoors, and are designed with each Scout’s age, rank, and skill in mind. Hiking, fishing, boating and aquatics resources are all offered. Archery and BB gun ranges are active for Sport Belt Loop and Sport Pin work, as well as for free shoot. We also offer Scout Skills and Wolf, Bear, and Webelos activities that lead toward rank advancement.”

While all Cub Scouts can attend, this camp is probably best suited for Webelos since parent attendance is limited. The facility cannot support all our boys and their parents and so a ratio of 4:1 is recommended.

Mike Jones, Sandy Williams and Dave England will be attending. Most of the boys from the Dragon den will be attending. Other boys who wish to attend may do so if we get parents who are willing to supervise and chaperone them for all 4 days of camp and transport them to Mataguay.

More information can be found on the council website.

Please contact if you are interested. I will need a commitment and payment of $130 by April 20th as the camp fills quickly.

Weblos Only Campout Camp Balboa          July 25-27, 2008

Like to campout? Like to earn patches? Do you like to shoot arrows and BBguns? Then join us for a Webelos Only Campout on July 25th – 27th at Camp Balboa. Keep in mind that by July, Bears will be Webelos scouts so they are able to attend this event.

This campout will provide the opportunity for boys to do Archery, Air Rifle (BB Guns), Knots, Compass, Campfire, Swimming, and Hiking Activity Arcs as well as complete Outdoorsman and Aquanaut badges. Camp Balboa offers a special patch program called the ARC program.

Friday dinner will be Pizza or would you prefer Wampum? How about both? Yum! Saturday dinner will foil dinners cooked by the boys. Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday will be omelets, bagels and muffins prepared by the boys. Are you seeing a trend yet? The boys will also setup their own tents, start the campfire using flint and perform a service project. The goal of empowering the boys is to prepare them for Boy Scouts.

Cost is estimated to be around $35/boy ($15 for camping & food and $20 for patches & usage fees), the actual cost is dependant on how many ARC’s each boy earns. I estimate that they could earn as many as 30 in one weekend. We will need at least 1 adult leader from each den. The adult fee is only $15/adult and Den Chiefs are free and needed!

We have reserved a site at Camp Balboa for 25 campers and I expect us to fill this. If we can get a total headcount quickly we might be able to reserve a larger campsite if one is available. Otherwise, first come first served. Please Contact and pay a $15 deposit if you would like to signup your son.
