Pack 616 Committee Meeting

Date 5 March 2006

Minutes

Treasury Update (Hahn)

Prior financial balance = $7,347.30
Projected Income = $ 939.00
Forecasted expenses:
- Charter = $3,112
- Blue & Gold = $1,000
- Pinewood Derby = $1,403
- Awards = $2,000
- Swim Party = $ 300
- Total = $7,815
Projected balance = $ 471.30
Projected income includes $700 (Spring Camp Out), and $239 refund from the school district for our previous School-Use payment.
Actual expenses for Charter and Derby exceeded forecasts by almost $1,000, so projected balance is lower than expected. The Committee discussed the need to closely watch future activity budgets and possibly conduct a fund raiser in the Spring or Fall.

Pinewood Derby Feedback …

The Scripps Ranch Swim and Racquet Club was a good location.

Giving medals to all Tiger Cubs is a good idea.

Continue recognizing first, second & third place finishers, even though it caused a few tears.

Using 2 tracks was a good idea; kept us on schedule when one track broke.

The max car height is really 3 inches, not 4.

The overall Derby lasted too long; try to tighten up the schedule next year.

The awards presentation disrupted the schedule and the boys didn’t care who gave out the awards.

The Jennifer and Sharon reign will go down as a memorable part of Pack 616 history!

Discussion of Future Events:

Our March Pack Show will be the Blue and Gold Dinner!

Date: Thursday, 30 March
Times: Set up 4:30-6:00; Dinner 6-8; Clean-up 8-8:30 pm.
Location: Balboa Park Club (just north of the Puppet Theatre)
Theme: Cub Scouts in Tropical Paradise
Cost: $ 5 per person. Checks payable to “Pack 616” can be mailed to Mark Fisher at 11330 Legacy Terrace, San Diego, CA 92131.
Budget = $1,000 from Pack + $1,125 to be collected.
Susan has volunteer list and will distribute separately
Den leaders, if you want Carolyn to pick up awards, she needs scout names (first and last), rank award earned (e.g. Webelos) and the date requirements were met. She plans to shop on March 9^th, so please provide the necessary information this week.
Den leaders, please help get families signed up!
Den leaders, please remind parents to bring checkbooks for future activities:

School use permission lists (Mike)
- Mike needs permission lists from dens 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, Cougars and Eagles.
- The refund from our school-use payment will be returned to the Pack account.
- A $100 contribution from Sempra will be provided to Dingeman on behalf of the Pack.

Gull Hockey (John)
- 12 March; Time = 5 pm
- John purchased approximately 70 tickets.
- Tickets will be available at Will Call for each family to pick up. John will provide a list of names to Will Call.
- Scouts should wear uniforms (T-shirt or Class A).

Aztecs Baseball (Bob)
- Sunday afternoon, 30 April at Tony Gwynn Stadium
- Cost = $4
- Sign-up at the Blue & Gold

Bridging & Arrow of Light ceremony (Bryon)
- During 18 April Pack Show
- Webelos II Den Leaders should discuss plans for awards with Bryon.

Scout Fair (Need a point of contact)
- 9 am to 4 pm; Saturday, 22 April at Qualcomm Stadium
- $5 per family of 4; We plan to collect $$ at the Blue and Gold.
- Den 616 activity = __________; Booth application due to Council by April 7.
- We will select an activity and POC at the March Committee meeting.

Cub Olympics (Bryon)
- Tuesday, May 16
- Planning to use Community Park as usual; No permit required

Spring Camp Out (Mark)
- May 19-21 at William Heise State Park.
- Cost will be $35 per family for the weekend, or $10 for the day.
- Sign-up at the Blue & Gold

Scripps Mesa District Dinner
- June 10^th; All leaders encouraged to attend.
- Need to submit candidates for Unit Volunteer of the Year Award by June 3

Summer Camps (Bryon)
- Jungle Twilight Camp is Sold Out!
  - July 31 – August 4, 4:30 – 8:30 pm daily
  - Open to all Cub Scouts
  - Location: Hoyt Park
- Pack 616 does not plan to attend the Summer Resident camps

Surfdawgs baseball & camp out in August (______________)
- Planning to attend game, but not camp overnight

Fall 2006 Camp Out (Mark)
- Date = 20-22 October at Indian Hills

Leadership positions open for next year:
- Cubmaster (Brian will still be around, but would like to be Ass’t Cubmaster)
- Committee Chair (Mike may move, or will be a Tiger Den Leader)
- Blue & Gold Chair
- Den 1 will probably combine with Dens 2 & 8; Den leaders to discuss with parents.

John G. to provide Derby pictures for SRCA newsletter to Bryon by 10 March.
Den 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, Cougars and Eagles should provide completed School Use permission slips to Mike.
